Christmas is around the corner and I decked the halls and lit the tree.... We are a household where traditions are important but in saying that I do like to change the decor up and make something new or just get out the trusty spray paint and change my colour scheme! This year I decided to make a couple of new wreaths, one for the front door and one for above the fireplace. Also each year I make a different ornament, to use as a tag on my gifts. Making it two gifts in one! It wouldn't be Christmas without something creative happening in my house.
Project 1- Paper bag wreath
1. Foam wreath- Michael's floral dept. $3 using coupon. 2. package of brown lunch bags- dollar store 3. Craft punch- use scallop or circle- my friend Lisa 4. Glue gun- always on hand and ready to go!
Cut out about 40 shapes with your punch and then cover the wreath by scrunching the paper circles into flower like shapes. When the foam is all covered, add a ribbon to hang or maybe place on a shelf or use as a centre piece.
Project 2- Felt wreath
1. Package of white felt- Michaels $6 2. Old picture frame- my garage. 3. Trusty glue gun
I found an old picture frame in the garage and cut up small squares of felt and then glued pieces all over to cover the frame. Then I put it up on the wall above the fireplace. Ideally a larger frame would work better but I was trying to re-use and re-cycle!
Project 3- Book/Flower Ornament
1. Frozen juice lid 2.Old book pages. 3. Circle punch. 4. String/ribbon. 5. Glue gun (again!) 6. Glitter glue- Michael's 7. Small mirror discs or glass gems.- dollar store
Cut circles from old book pages and using a skewer curl the edges. Glue them in layers on the juice lid to create flower petals. In the centre add the mirror disc, then embellish the edges of the flower with glitter glue. Finish off by adding string or ribbon to allow you to hang the ornament.
So the decorations are hung and the presents are wrapped and only 13 days worth of chocolate left in the advent calendars! Get creative and start your own crafty Christmas traditions. Check out my next post for my finished decorations and some other great examples of festive design!
